Tutorial Video - Notes

Overall comments

We examined the mental map built to structure all the activities, projects and contents to be included in the learning log.

Brilliant preparation.

The three external project proposals.

Points of reflection and rework:

1) interview with one of the founders of the Museo Del Camminare: the list of questions is ready. The result of the interview could be ready for the next Tutorial.

2) Blue Print of “Resonances” Virtual Exhibition, to be developed by a specialized company. Given that the implementation will involve an investment of approximately 2.000 pounds, this project is not strictly necessary  this unit, unless it is something I want to pursue for my personal satisfaction and professional development. This initiative could be saved for the next unit.

3) The so-called “recursive project”, which would be conducted at a different time of year than when the original photos were taken. This could be a positive or negative factor, but it really depends on the meaning I really want to give to this experience.. Given that there have been similar experiences by some artists, it’s crucial to  reflect on what the focus is behind this initiative: the intention would be to record the reactions of others to an experience, in some way personally unique (in as to place and time).

Critical Review: there are two proposals. The most stimulating is “The relationship of the individual with the urban environment in Photography”. The common point between psychogeography, the practice of drifting and street photography is the individual's reaction to the urban environment. The abstract starts from some sentences from the books by Rebecca Solnit and Henry Thoreau and winds through the works of authors. It is important to be confident in what I am talking about and to structure my research and the document. My task will be to be insightful in my research and bring together these strands that answer my specific question and put them together in my creative piece. The title itself will be an important factor that will direct my written work.

Action points

·         Interview: send the list of questions to Tutor.

·         Virtual exhibition: Replace it with some online research on similar successful experiences and to reflect on why, in my opinion, these are successful. See if the critical evaluation of other virtual exhibitions can be considered in the unit requirements.

·         Recursive Project: focus on the reasons behind this initiative, prepare the material first and reflect on my reactions before proceeding further. Describe linguistically what is the reason for bringing images of the past to the same place, for example to stimulate the reaction of the passer-by to this vision and interact to detect reactions. Do some mockups and some tests, for example playing with the size of the prints.

·         Critical Review: of all the potential topics, select those that are closest to what I want to be as a photographer (hint: Atget). In the potential bibliography, make a selection of what will be the reference for the content in order to give more context.

Feedback based on Learning outcomes

 [Found in the course Introduction]

The learning log is structured so that there is an area that concerns research and an area that concerns projects & experiments (practice): in each project there are one or more hyperlinks to reflection and research pages and posts, which informed the execution and content of the experiments.
